What is GeneSight?
Genetic Test
GeneSight is a simple, non-invasive cheek swab test that uses advanced genetic analysis to provide insights into how your body may process and respond to certain medications.
Fewer Side Effects
It helps your clinician choose medications with fewer side effects and better chances of working for you.
What it covers
It compares your genetic profile to more than 60 commonly prescribed psychiatric medications across multiple classes, helping your provider identify options that may be more effective and better tolerated.
Insurance & Cost
For most patients, GeneSight testing is fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or their insurance plan. If there is any out-of-pocket cost, GeneSight offers financial assistance so cost is never a barrier to getting answers.

Frequently Asked Questions
We've got A's for your Q's
Is GeneSight covered by insurance?
Yes. GeneSight is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial insurance plans. Most patients pay $0–$330 out-of-pocket after insurance is processed. If there is any remaining cost, GeneSight offers a financial assistance program to help reduce or eliminate your bill. Your exact coverage depends on your insurance provider and plan, but Genesight will work with you to make sure finances are not a barrier.
Does it test for all medications?
No. GeneSight focuses on mental health medications that research shows can be impacted by your genetic makeup. This includes over 60 commonly prescribed antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, mood stabilizers, ADHD medications, and antipsychotics. It does not test every medication on the market, but it covers the most commonly used psychiatric treatments so your provider can make more informed decisions.
How long until I get results?
Most GeneSight results are ready within 2–3 business days after the lab receives your sample. Your provider will review the report with you as soon as it’s available, so you can start using the insights to guide your treatment without delay.
Can I do the test from home?
Yes. GeneSight can be done from the comfort of your home. For at-home testing, we’ll arrange for a cheek swab kit to be shipped to you with simple instructions. Once you collect your sample, you’ll send it back to the lab in the prepaid package. We’ll contact you as soon as your results are ready to review together.
