Neurocircuits of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Its Dissociative Subtype

These findings have significant implications for developing targeted non-invasive treatment interventions for PTSD patients that utilize EEG and real-time fMRI neurofeedback, showing evidence of neuronal reconfiguration between areas highly implicated in the disorder.

The Effectiveness of Using Neurofeedback in the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review

Ten studies met the criteria for inclusion in this review. Neurofeedback demonstrated salubrious [healthy] results in at least one outcome measure for the majority of participants across all studies.

LENS Neurofeedback Treatment with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Neglect

This article presents the first uncontrolled case report of neurofeedback treatment of an FASD case on the milder end of this spectrum, which resulted in significant behavioral and academic improvements that were sustained on follow-up at 42 months.  It is possible that neurofeedback may hold potential to improve functioning in persons with FASD.

Furthermore, there was a significant relation between the ability to regulate the amygdala and the degree of improvement in clinical symptoms, providing additional support for the causal role between rtfMRI-nf learning and clinical improvement.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder—The Neurofeedback Remedy

Collectively, this approach has been found to be much better tolerated than traditional exposure therapies. In addition, it is helpful in the shedding of substance dependencies that are common in treatment-resistant PTSD

Developmental Trauma, LENS and Neural Regulation: Brain and Body

LENS is unique in the field of neurofeedback in that it applies the concept of neural regulation not only to the brain but also to the body, reflecting both Top-down and Bottom-up interventions.  Such an integrated body-mind approach dovetails uniquely with other information-processing interventions.  It is suggested that individuals with a history of Developmental Trauma benefit from the addition to LENS neurofeedback by directly intervening at the level of the electrical or frequency domain.

The impact of neurofeedback training on children with developmental trauma: A randomized controlled study.

This pilot study demonstrated that 24 sessions of NFT significantly decreased PTSD symptoms, internalizing, externalizing, other behavioral and emotional symptoms, and significantly improved the executive functioning of children aged 6–13 years with severe histories of abuse and neglect who had not significantly benefited from any previous therapy.

Neurofeedback for post-traumatic stress disorder: systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical and neurophysiological outcomes

All included studies showed an advantage of NFB over control conditions in reducing symptoms of PTSD, with indications of improvement in symptoms of anxiety and depression and related neurophysiological changes.
