EDUCATION
My background includes an undergraduate degree in secondary education from Antioch College and an MBA from Stanford University, prior to becoming a licensed therapist. I am a Certified Diversity Executive and consult locally and nationally with organizations with DEI initiatives. I have several HR certifications as well as training in a variety of management and leadership development programs. I am licensed counselor in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida and have supervision designation in Kentucky and Ohio. I am an adjunct faculty member in the counseling programs at Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati. I also serve on several non-profit board of directors.
EXPERIENCE
My approach to counseling is to make it client-centered – allowing and encouraging clients to determine the topics, direction and intensity of conversations that we have. It is never my role to evaluate or judge and I am always open to sharing my insights or feedback when asked. I am intentional with providing my observations and thoughts to clients and I hope that my experience and training helps provide an environment that is safe, engaging and productive. My previous experience as an HR professional is often of value navigating challenges that people face in job and career. I have specialized training in complex trauma, adoption of children, substance use and other addictions. I have also focused on supporting LGBTQ people in a variety of ways including coming out, relationships, sexual practices and developing community.
I work primarily through a cognitive perspective using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) and reality therapy. I supplement this with behavioral techniques when appropriate, the use of homework or worksheets and mindfulness activities. I also use my knowledge and familiarity with the local LGBTQ community to help people find links and resources to help with the development of positive personal connections and experiences.
